401, 402, and 403 – Also referred to as m401, m402, and m403. One of many styles of electronic cigarettes available. These are all essentially the same unit (same threading on batteries and atomizers) but with different length batteries. The 401 model is the longest in physical length and battery life of the three while the 403 is the shortest in length and battery life.
18350 - A 3.7V battery used in larger battery mods
18650 - A 3.7V battery battery used in larger battery mods
Accelerated Steep - An accelerated steep is the process by which a vaper attempts (approximately 50% of the time) to speed up either fully or partially the steeping process. The most common method of accelerated steeping is to place e-liquids in a lidded bottle with plenty of air space and to stand the bottle in a vessel (bowl, cup, mug) of warm but not hot water for approximately 15/30mins. The level of water only needs to be deep enough to prevent the bottle falling over. Other methods of accelerated steeping include very short exposure in a microwave oven (typically less than 5 seconds for a 10 ml bottle). This is NOT recommended. The boiling points of Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerin are higher than water so it would be very easy for vapers using this method to seriously scald themselves.
Adapter – Used to allow a specific style of atomizer or cartomizer to fit onto a different styles of batteries.
Analog or Analogue – Slang term for a traditional cigarette.
APV - Advanced Personal Vaporiser, referencing a VV, VW, or Hybrid Device. This term is not commonly used.
Atty – Abbreviation for Atomiser/Atomizer.
Automatic – A style of Electronic Cigarette battery that does not have a button to activate the heating element. The Battery is activated by inhaling on the unit.
Batt – Abbreviation for Battery.
Battery (Abbreviated as Batt) – The battery piece of an Electronic Cigarette is the part that provides power to the heating element. This allows the heating element to heat the E-Liquid and produce vapor.
Bottom Feeder - A device which holds an upright bottle containing an E-Liquid and a battery. Gently squeezing the bottle pushes liquid up into the atomiser which can then be activated and vaped.
Cartridge (Abbreviated as Cart) – A plastic tube-like piece that is usually stuffed with some sort of absorbent filler material that holds the juice.
Cart – Abbreviation for Cartridge.
Carto – Abbreviation for Cartomizer.
Cartomizer/Cartomiser (Abbreviated as Carto) – A Cartridge and atomizer in a single unit. These generally are disposable, inexpensive and hold more juice than a regular cartridge/atomizer combination.
Cig-a-likes – The 1st generation e-cigarette that looks most like an analogue.
Clone – A copy of an original device, usually of inferior quality and therefore much cheaper.
Coil - A coil is a peice of wire (usually Kanthal or Nichrome but there are other types) that is heated up for vaporising the E-Liquid and is used in conjunction with a wick (see wick). The coil is wound around the wick and an electrical current is applied when the ends of the wires are connected to the positive and negative terminals of an Atomiser, Cartomiser, Genesis, ect.
Safety Shut-Off - Safety feature built into some devices. A complete stop of all heating functions will happen in the even the fire button is held down for too long, in most cases, 10 seconds.
DCA - DCA stands for drip cup adapter. Used for direct dripping, the atomiser sits inside of it.
DCC - Dual Coil Cartomiser contains 2 coils instead of 1.
Direct Dripping or Dripping - Dripping E-Liquid directly onto an atomiser.
Dry Burn - a method of removing gunk from the coil, done with out E-Liquid on the wick/coil
Dripping – A method of adding E-Liquid to the atomiser.
ECCA – Abbreviation for E-Cigarette Consumer Association. Website
E-Cig – Abbreviation for electronic cigarette. An electronic cigarette is composed of a few different parts, namely the battery, the atomizer which screws into the battery and some kind of means to administer e-liquid to the part inside the atomizer which atomizes the e-liquid (usually a heating coil) so that vapour is produced. There are many varieties of these three e-cig components and new products are becoming available all the time.
E-Liquid – See E-Juice above.
Electronic Cigarette (Abbreviated as E-Cig) – A device that heats up E-Liquid consisting of nicotine, propylene glycol and/or vegetable glycol, and flavorings to a point where it turns into a vapor which can be inhaled. For more detailed information, click here:Electronic Cigarette
Ethyl Maltol or EM - An additive used to sweeten E-Liquid
FDA - Abbreviation for the (United States) Food and Drug Administration.
Filler Material (Abbreviated as Filler) - A polyester type material placed inside of a Cartridge that is absorbent.
Flash E-Liquid – An additive to give TH for no nic users or as an aid to reduce nic intake.
Flooding – Another variable vaping subject but generally occurs when too much e-liquid is applied to the atomizer.
Food and Drug Administration (Abbreviated as FDA) – An administrative branch of the United States government that oversees rules and regulations pertaining to the safety of food and drug products sold in the USA. There is currently a very controversial lawsuit involving the FDA and the importation and distribution of electronic cigarettes.
Genesis type or Genny - A type of user rebuildable atomiser or atomiser/tank combination based on the original Genesis atomiser. There are many variations of this device available on the market.
High Resistance or Standard Resistance - An atomiser with a high resistance coil used with high voltage devices
Hot Cigarette – A slang term for a traditional cigarette.
Hot Spot - A part of the coil that starts to glow red, often causing a burnt taste. It is caused either by a short circuit from the coil to the wick or by the coil not being in contact with the wick and therefore overheating
Hybrid - A hybrid is a battery PV with an incorporated tank, usually a Genesis Rebuildable Atomiser
ICR Battery A lithium cobalt rechargeable battery. Commonly known as li-ion.
IMR Battery - A lithium manganese rechargeable battery. Can also be called "high drain batteries".
Isopropyl alcohol - Isopropyl alcohol in liquid solution used for cleaning some parts of Electronic Cigarette Accessories, for instance Atomisers, Battery connections, or for what is termed a Provari bath.
Kanthal - A type of wire used to make heating coils in Electronic Cigarettes. An alloy of iron, chromium and aluminium.
LED - Abbreviation for Light Emitting Diode.
LiFePO4 battery - A lithium iron phosphate rechargeable battery.
Low Resistance (Abbreviated as LR) – An atomiser or cartomiser with a lower OHM rating than the standard equipment. This generally causes the heating element to get hotter faster and produces vapor more quickly.
LR - Abbreviation for Low Resistance.
MAH - Represents milliampere-hour. Generally speaking, mAh indicates how long a battery will last. Comparisons between batteries of different types can be unreliable
m401, m402, and m403 – Also referred to as 401, 402, and 403. One of many styles of electronic cigarettes available.
