Liquid for producing vapor in electronic cigarettes, known as e-juice or e-liquid, is a solution of Propylene Glycol (PG) and/or Vegetable Glycerin (VG) and/or polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG400) mixed with concentrated flavors, and optionally, a variable percent of a liquid nicotine concentrate. They are often sold in a bottle or as pre-filled disposable cartridges. Many manufacturers offer dozens of flavors which resemble the taste of regular tobacco, menthol cigarette|menthol, vanilla, coffee, cola and various fruits, but nicotine concentrations vary by manufacturers. The standard notation "mg/ml" is often used in labeling, sometimes shortened to a simple "mg".[1] Nicotine-free solutions are also common. Some electronic cigarette users opt to make their own e-juice in a form known as "DIY".[2]

Propylene Glycol

Propylene Glycol, also known as PG is a viscous (thicker than water), clear and colourless liquid. It is considered odourless and tasteless. Propylene Glycol is a synthetic liquid so it is not extracted from natural recources. It is man made. Propylene Glycol is used in many applications accross many industries from foods to healthcare. Propylene Glycol is typically used as a base ingredient in E-liquid. This is the main ingredient (along with or instead of Vegetable Glycerin) that creates a vapour when heated. You will often find it used in products which are best kept moist as it help to stop products from drying out.

Vegetable Glycerin

Vegetable Glycerin, or glycerol, is a clear, odorless liquid produced from plant oils, typically palm oil, soy, or coconut oil. Palm and coconut oils are natural triglyceride mixtures; each triglyceride is composed of three fatty acids esterified with glycerin. Vegetable Glycerin has a number of valuable applications that include cosmetic products, foods, and as a replacement for alcohol in herbal and botanical tinctures.[3]
